Reflections on 30 Years of Ministry

It seems incredible that 30 years have elapsed since Meadowvale Church was formally organized, on February 5, 1985. As we celebrate our 30th year at Meadowvale we are deeply aware of the ways in which our history has shaped who and where we are today, and how it will influence our future. As we celebrate this milestone, we glorify God for our accomplishments and express our gratefulness for His guidance and blessings over the years.
Our church began as a small group of worshipers who responded to a need to serve the Meadowvale community. With permission from Mississauga Church, the group began worshipping in 1980, they were formalized as a Branch Sabbath School on July 17, 1982 and organized as a Company on February 2, 1984. Under the pastoral direction of Dr. Haskell Edwards, the first local leaders were Lloyd Dixon (Company Leader), Pearl Myers (Secretary), Bernice Jones (Treasurer) and Mary Williams (Sabbath School Superintendent).
Over the years, we worshipped in rented locations at the White Oaks United Church at the Meadowvale Town Centre Church Campus, Erin Mills Holiness Church of God at Loyalist Drive and finally at Streetsville United Church.
On July 15, 1994, we held the first worship service in our own building at 16 Falconer Drive. The official opening was held on November 16, 1996 with Dr. Fitzroy Maitland as Pastor. The mortgage was liquidated under the leadership of Dr. Nepthaly Dorzilme who also spearheaded the dedication service in November 2005.
To better accommodate the growing membership, Pastor Daniel Saugh and the Church Board seized what can best be described as a miraculous series of events that lead to the sale of 16 Falconer Drive and the purchase of our current church home at 5920 Montevideo Road.
Our congregation is appreciative of, and indebted to the stellar cast of Pastors who has served us over the years. Growth in membership, increases in the scope and influence of our ministries, and our strong connections with community leaders are the results of the dedication of these men and their families, along with their commitment to God and to His work. Their vision and their sacrifices have become part of our heritage.
We are also grateful to our members who have faithfully served the church and supported our pastors in ministry. Meadowvale's steady growth has resulted from the movement of people into the community, evangelistic efforts, and from their personal ministry among family, friends, acquaintances and the community at large.
We remain committed to embracing new members and to serving our local community through ministries such as the food pantry, nursing home visits, Community love and care days, family life education, baby dedications, wedding ceremonies, free high quality inspirational concerts, Vacation Bible School, soccer and other physical activities, community barbecues, Pathfinder and Adventurer Clubs.
We are deeply grateful to God for the opportunities He has given us to serve in this community. As we celebrate our history and God’s blessings, we are aware that today marks a new beginning, a time for us to renew our commitment to our God, to ministry and to our community. As we go forward, we place our faith in God’s ability to renew and reenergize us for the work that lies ahead. May we continue to be a living testament to God’s greatness and faithfulness and to offer hope to those who hurt.
